"A large demonstration and parade in Madison, WI featuring the fleebagging Democratic senators went forward without incident yesterday. The lawmakers were given a heroes welcome as tens of thousands cheered them on.

Meanwhile, in Fon du Lac, WI, two local Republican lawmakers canceled their participation in a St. Patrick's day parade
The glowing coverage of the New York Times says volumes:
  • The reason for the reception was that the 14 Democratic state senators had returned weeks after fleeing to another state in a dramatic - if ultimately failed - effort to prevent a vote on a bill that would significantly weaken public-sector unions.

Their disappearance - "a really, really weird trip," in the words of one senator - was one of the most memorable and divisive aspects of the legislative standoff, and it helped escalate a policy dispute into a protracted battle over union rights that seized the attention of the nation.

On Saturday, the senators spoke, sometimes boastfully, about their pride in the outpouring of support, their dismay at the law that passed in their absence and their eagerness to meet the protesters who have backed their actions.

"I'm one of the Fabulous 14, and I'm so proud," said Spencer Coggs, who was first elected to the State Legislature nearly three decades ago. "We are back to unite and fight with our supporters. We gave them hope. They gave us inspiration."

In Fon du Lac, there will be a heavy police presence at the family event, no doubt putting a damper on the celebration. Fox 11 news:

A parade with more than 50 entries will now be down two participants.

Fond du Lac police say the tension in Madison has spawned threats, they and lawmakers are acting on.

"We've taken them all seriously and we're happy to say that none of them have panned out yet here in Fond du Lac, so we're still vigilant," Deputy Chief Kevin Lemke said.

State Senator Randy Hopper and State Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt, both Republicans, have decided not to march in the city's St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday.

Hopper was among the Republican lawmakers who received death threats, in connection to the battle over collective bargaining and fixing a budget deficit.

[...]

Officers say the lawmakers' absence will take some of the pressure off enforcement, but security will be high in Fond du Lac and at other parades in the state.

Hopper wasn't available for a interview, however in a statement he said he was looking forward to the event, saying "I, in no way, want to put the citizens of Fond du Lac in harms way."

An interesting tale of two parades."

An article yesterday related how much the 14 Wisconsin Dem senators had received from union PACS. A number had received 50% of their election funds from union PACS and one senator, a member of 3 unions, received 73% of his election funds from union PACS. These senators have been bought and paid for. Their allegience to the unions is based on money. They claim to be for middle income people, for rights of workers and on and on. In reality, they are bought and paid for prostitutes. They are prostituting their offices and are showing the entire nation that they have no honor or any other redeeming quality. AND, the nation is watching and learning.

Just think what it will be like when millions who live by enforcing a claim on other people's money through "government", are left high and dry. Protests or laws don't change economic reality. But the mob will cling to the claim regardless and seek other ways of enforcing it. It won't be pretty.

What's going on around here, Anyway? This is insanity. The democrats have been getting away with their assault on the public treasuries in states and in washington for so long now that they are coming unglued with the thought of some opposition. Be prepared for anything but above all do not give in to their savagery. We have not seen anything yet. The unions will be sending out their thugs to make things unpleasant for those who oppose them. And by doing so the unions will be making themselves look even worse. And the opposition better learn to speak up and tell the truth about the unions and their motivations. Power and money, not the children, is what the unions are all about. Ignore all the passionate pleas about the historic mission of the labor movement. We have moved way beyond those days. It's all politics NOW. At the core of the problems lies the democrat party who has always fought for the "little guy". HOGWASH! They have just bought the votes of the "little guy" by using scads of taxpayer money to promote programs that are nothing but giveaways. But the nastiness that we see today by leftist union folks is escalating because they can see the end coming for public sector unions as Americans are catching on to the fact that they have done far more harm than good. And it has been expensive. Huge kudos to Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin. In time the parade featuring the 14 pathetic senators will fade in memory but
  • the anti-union tsunami is just beginning."

Perhaps Janet over at Homeland Security will add these demonstrators to the extremist groups we're supposed to be on the lookout for."

What happened to Obama's Tucson rhetoric? All gone. Violent, eliminationist rhetoric, death threats and the like, the US president openly standing with those perpetrating it. The left may assume quality right of center candidates will get the message not to run for public office. Few would choose this for themselves and their families, with the President of the US openly defending the provokers of hatred and death threats (ongoing for several weeks). ed.
