"With roars of approval from hundreds of GOP women gathered in San Antonio, Sen. Ted Cruz defended his political tactics in Congress on Saturday and vowed to continue the uphill fight against the new federal health care law, despite backlash even from fellow Republicans. Dashing from city to Texas city to meet with constituents now that the federal budget crisis he's blamed for..."...

[Ed. note: What "federal budget crisis"? If by "crisis" the authors mean the "shutdown," the US president is the only person who can shutdown the government. The authors make a blanket statement that Senator Cruz is "blamed" for an alleged "budget crisis." Assuming for a moment there was such a "crisis," where is documentation that Senator Cruz is universally "blamed" by people who understand the facts behind the propaganda and who aren't part of the Beltway political class and its media steno pool either current or aspiring?]

(continuing): "has subsided, Cruz drew a hero's welcome from the Texas Federation of Republican Women meeting at the Grand Hyatt. Acknowledging he's “reviled” by some in Washington, D.C., Cruz said it's a relief to be back where he's “appreciated.”

“It is tremendously uplifting to be back home,” he said. “I've got a job, and it's not to work for the party bosses in Washington, it's to work for 26 million Texans,” he said.

Cruz, swept into office with tea party backing, conceded his 10 months in the Senate have been a wild ride.

The election was less than a year ago, and it's been a whirlwind beyond what I expected,” he said. Insisting most Texans are behind him in opposing the Affordable Care Act known as Obamacare, Cruz said “our focus shouldn't be just on the partisan back-and-forth, it should be on fixing the problem.”

He contends the new law harms businesses and families and stiffles job growth. He chided fellow Republicans who didn't embrace his attempt to defund the program. Last week, Congress ended a 16-day partial government shutdown with temporary budget legislation that left the health care law intact.

“In this latest deal, what the U.S. Senate said is that the Senate would provide no relief for all of the suffering that Obamacare is causing,” Cruz lamented in San Antonio — echoing remarks he made earlier Saturday to the Texas Medical Association meeting in Austin.

Praising a failed plan from House Republicans, Cruz said, “you don't win a fight when your own team is firing cannons at the people who are standing up and leading,” referring to House Republicans.

The lack of support from other Senate Republicans, he said, is “what led directly to this lousy deal” to re-open the government.

While Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky told the National Review that another government shutdown is off the table next year, Cruz was vague when asked about the prospects of another budget delay.

“There will be plenty of time to consider the particular tactical or strategic decisions,” Cruz told reporters after his Austin speech. “What I can tell you is that the fight in my opinion needs to stay focused on stopping the disaster that is Obamacare, because people are hurting, and this deal ignored the American people.”

The issue is looming again for Washington leaders because the deal to re-open the government includes only a temporary measure to fund the government through mid-January and to suspend the debt ceiling through early February.

Cruz repeatedly lambasted Senate Republicans who didn't stand with the House Republicans. “The deal that was cut ... is a classic example of the Washington establishment selling the American people down the river,” Cruz said.

Added: If the US had a 2 party system the Ted Cruz story wouldn't be happening. By the end of George Bush #2 the GOP had merged with the democrats into a single ruling class party favoring big gov. and a massive executive branch. In one-party dictatorships things can move quickly, but the US was designed so things would move slowly. The Tea Party or Silent Majority are merely Americans who recognize the US has been sold out to the bare walls. But they have no political party to represent their views. The GOP doesn't want them. MySanAntonio authors don't mention the GOP House has 100% authority on financial matters and therefore has authority to defund ObamaCare without Senate or Presidential approval. To this day the GOP House Speaker has never allowed a standalone ObamaCare defunding bill to come to the floor. The GOP loves ObamaCare as much as democrats do and couldn't care less that we gave them a landslide majority in Nov. 2010 for the single purpose of defunding O'Care. As to Ted Cruz. The GOP establishment heavily backed Ted Cruz' opponent, multi-millionaire establishment crony David Dewhurst in the GOP primary. Ted Cruz was backed by the Tea Party. The GOP considers it imperative to silence the Tea Party by any means necessary. This is the backdrop of recent events.

GOP Speaker Boehner was thrilled the democrat president was re-elected. Obama saved Boehner from the Tea Party: NPR

In a paradoxical way, Obama’s re-election victory coupled with congressional Democrats adding to their numbers may have helped Boehner. Some of those wins came at the expense of the Tea Party, the conservative movement whose affiliated House members have been very willing to stand up to Boehner. In recent weeks, Boehnerhas gotten his entire leadership team to sign his tax-raising, fiscal-cliff counteroffer….Despite complaints from conservative activists and bloggers, however, Boehner remains the most powerful Republican in Washington.”

Two days after Obama’s re-election John Boehner enthused that ObamaCare was “the law of the land simply due to Obama’s re-election. ObamaCare isn’t the law of the land, isn’t legal to this day. Among other things, Mr. Boehner failed his constitutional duty to hold a vote in the House up or down on ObamaCare as a tax:
House Speaker John Boehner made it official Thursday: Obamacare isn’t going anywhere. In an interview with ABC News, Boehner seemed to suggest the election ended any efforts to wipe out the whole law. When “World News” anchor Diane Sawyer asked if there would be any more votes to repeal the law, Boehner said “the election changes that” and “Obamacare is the law of the land.””

The "dangerously off kilter" expansion of the executive branch:

"The vast majority of “laws” governing the United States are not passed by Congress but are issued as regulations, crafted largely by thousands of unnamed, unreachable bureaucrats."...

5/24/13, "The rise of the fourth branch of government," Washington Post, Jonathan Turley, opinion

"The growing dominance of the federal government over the states has obscured more fundamental changes within the federal government itself: It is not just bigger, it is dangerously off kilter. Our carefully constructed system of checks and balances is being negated by the rise of a fourth branch, an administrative state of sprawling departments and agencies that govern with increasing autonomy and decreasing transparency.

This exponential growth has led to increasing power and independence for agencies. The shift of authority has been staggering. The fourth branch now has a larger practical impact on the lives of citizens than all the other branches combined."...
